Rosanne Wellmaker has apprenticed and studied with other artists in various media for the past 40 years. She holds a B.A. in Communications from Queens College. Her talents range from glass art, mainly sculpting, to jewelry design and painting. She teaches lampwork glass classes in Islip NY.

The shape and form of the world inspires my work. During my last trip to Italy, I had the opportunity to meet and later study with world-renowned glass artists.  Venice and Murano Island inspire some of my work.   My work is also deeply influenced by my personal life and experiences. My husband’s affinity for helicopters challenged me to recreate them in glass.  Additionally, growing up helping in my parents’ pet shop sparked a lifelong connection to animals and sea creatures, which was later enhanced by my experiences SCUBA diving.  My animal inspired series is further influenced by over 35 years of dog obedience instruction, time spent with my horse Jellybean, and a childhood surrounded by nature - both at my family's farmouse in the Catskills and in Montauk, where I worked as a horse trail guide.

The Beginning:

"I went to Disney world with my family when I was about eight years old. There was a booth in the center of Main Street, where someone was lampworking using the crochet technique. That was it for me, it was magic. I spent hours that first day, constantly begging my parents to still be left there to watch, thankfully they agreed! Since then I've been fascinated with glass and its movement".

Rosanne lives and creates in Central Islip NY's Horse Community. She lives with her husband Butch, Akita Lola, Bloodhound Clifford, Leapord Tortoise Goliath, Koi fish and her Quarter Horse Paint, Jellybean.
