Rosanne Wellmaker has apprenticed and studied with other artists in various media for the past 40 years. She holds a B.A. in Communications from Queens College. Her talents range from glass art, mainly sculpting, to jewelry design and painting. She teaches lampwork glass classes in Islip NY.

Shape and form of the world around her inspires her work. On her last trip to Italy, she was able to meet with world-renowned glass artists; And later study with them.  Venice and Murano Island are the inspiration for some of her works.   Rosanne’s husband’s affinity for helicopters has challenged her to create them in glass.  Growing up helping in her parents’ pet shop started her on the path of involvement with animals and sea creatures.  SCUBA diving has enhanced her affinity for underwater life.  30 plus years of dog obedience instruction and spending time with her horse, Jellybean, coupled with growing up surrounded by nature both upstate at her family’s farmhouse in the Catskills and her grandmother’s home in Montauk LI where she was a horse trail guide, and influenced her to create her animal inspired series.

The Beginning:

"I went to Disney world with my family when I was about eight years old. There was a booth in the center of Main Street, where someone was lampworking using the crochet technique. That was it for me, it was magic. I spent hours that first day, constantly begging my parents to still be left there to watch, thankfully they agreed! Since then I've been fascinated with glass and its movement".

Rosanne lives and creates in Central Islip NY's Horse Community. She lives with her husband Butch, Akita Lola, Tortoise Goliath, Koi fish and her horse Jellybean.
