My classes are geared towards teaching existing artists new skills or familiarizing a beginner with lampworking and sending you off to your own studio to practice.  I will help in any way I can to give you the information you need to set up a safe studio.  My main focus is sculpture but I will introduce basic beads and sculptural beads as well.

Private and Semi-Private classes at my Deer Park LI NY studio.

45 minutes east of Manhattan, exit 51 from the Long Island Expressway (495), Exit 39 N from Southern State Parkway. The Deer Park stop on the Long Island Rail Road, Ronkonkoma branch, is 1 hour from Manhattan by train .  You can also take the Babylon line to the last stop in Babylon Village, both train stations are less than 10 minutes from my studio.

Please call 631-243-5965 or use email link above
for more information or to schedule class.

Lampworking classes are tailored to your needs.

Private classes: $50 per hour.
Semi-Private classes: $40 per hour per person for a maximum of 2 people per class.
Studio Rental: $20 per hour. Only available to students for practice time once familiar with safety and equipment.
Kiln Firing $10: Available for past students after classes have ended that need to fire work and have yet to purchase a kiln.

I am currently upgrading the studio and will be able to accomodate up to three students in the near future.

Plan for your first session to be a minimum of 3 hours in order to have enough time to learn some basics and then actually make a sculpture, pendant or beads.

If you wish to learn both types of glass, I usually schedule the first class in borosilicate glass (like Pyrex TM and your bakeware) and the second class in soda lime glass (soft or bead glass).  This can be adjusted according to your needs or desire to only work in one type of glass.

Additional classes can be scheduled with a minimum of a 2 hour block.

My time schedule is flexible to meet your needs. Classes can begin any time 1230 pm or later.

If you see it on the website, I can help you make it!

If you are just starting to work with borosilicate, I can help with connections and building sculpture.

If you’re already working in glass and can't figure out a technique you see here, I can help.

If you wish to learn to make a bead, I can help.

If you want to try flameworking for the first time, I can help.

If you would like to work on soda lime sculptural beads or off mandrel sculpture, I can help.

If I can help with an answer in an email or phone call I will, save your $ for new supplies!

If I can't help you I will try to direct you to someone who can.

I look forward to learning from you!

What to bring:

Your safety glasses if you have them, If not they will be provided.

Kevlar gloves or sleeves if you use them

any tool you can’t work without

cotton or natural fiber clothing, closed shoes, no cuffs on pants

Any recording devices you want: camera, still or video, tape recorder, paper etc...

You may bring samples of your work to show me your attempts that you need help figuring out, if that's what your class is for.

If you’re already working in glass please email me a link to or photos of some of your work, if possible, so I can get a better idea of your starting point to help make the class content appropriate for your skill level.

You will be working on a GTT Mirage or Nortel Red Max torch on tanked oxygen and using either a digitally controlled Paragon 240 or Aim kiln.

Class Feedback:
Diane Brzeski of Virginia states: “I have been glassworking for a little over a year, starting with beads, then marbles and then I tried my hand at small sculptures. They continually fell apart where they had been joined.  I found Ro’s sculptures on line and wrote asking if I could take a class. Well, that was a call I will always be glad I made. I spent all day with Ro and she was a most patient and understanding instructor. She shared her techniques and knowledge freely. As soon as I asked "How do you do this….. or that…..” She immediately demonstrated how it was done. I came away with more knowledge then any class I have ever taken. My glasswork has improved immensely since my class. If you get a chance, I highly recommend learning from Ro. She will definitely make you a better glassworker.”
